Positive Feedback For Our GPS Watch
Northwood Intouch has been met with positive feedback after the launch of its GPS Watch in the Fall of 2014. The service provides families with an easy to use piece of equipment that allows people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias to roam freely and independently. Northwood Intouch is the first in Nova Scotia to offer a piece of equipment like this.
The GPS watch looks and functions just like a typical watch, with the added benefit of an SOS panic button, a built in fall detector, and programmable safe zones. The watch is waterproof and also boasts a lockable strap with key.
The goal of the GPS Watch is to foster independence and keep individuals active and moving about in their community. Exercise has many known benefits including reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Studies show that exercise also slows the progression of Alzheimer’s. People who are physically active are less likely to experience a decline in their mental function and have a lowered risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
How It Works
Once the client signs up for the service, they’ll gain access to a private online dashboard where they can set up a safe zone. If the individual crosses that invisible fence, a text or email alert can be sent to a pre-determined list of responders like children, a caregiver, or the 24/7 monitoring centre. In that text or email alert they would get a link to a map pinpointing the exact location of the individual within 3 feet making it easy to locate the person quickly.
The GPS Watch has also received some interest from families with Autistic children looking for a device to help them find the child if they escape from home or school.
No device or system works 100% of the time. Satellite signal disruptions or network issues may, on occasion, delay location information. Please recognize the GPS is one component of a comprehensive dementia support plan. Choose the solution that fits best.
