Northwood Intouch is a province-wide personal response and support service offering seniors and other clients peace of mind in knowing that they can get the help they need when they need it.

Northwood Intouch service includes: a two-way in-home communicator plugged into an existing phone line, a small waterproof personal help button that can be worn around the neck, wrist or clipped on a piece of clothing, 24-hour Response Centre, daily check-in monitoring (if requested) and computerized record database with each subscriber's critical medical and personal emergency contact information available to the Response Centre when the button is pressed.

Medication/Message Reminder (optional) - allows subscribers, family and caregivers to program up to six different reminder messages that will play when specified.  This feature reminds subscribers to take their medication, check blood sugars, keep appointments, and so forth. There is no additional fee for this service.

When pressed, the help button activates the in-home communicator. A signal is sent over the phone line directly to Northwood's local 24-hour Response Centre. Our staff at the response centre contacts the subscriber to determine the nature of the call and sends the appropriate help. If the subscriber can not respond, Response Centre staff will take immediate steps to ensure a responder is sent to the subscriber's home as quickly as possible and check on the situation.

There is no long-term commitment or equipment purchase necessary.  Northwood's province-wide service is provided through Northwood Homecare Limited, a not-for-profit organization. The first month total cost is $25 and the regular fee for each additional month is $41 (taxes included). The monthly fee remains the same no matter how often subscribers contact the response centre or use the reminder service.  Servicing of equipment is also included in the monthly fee.  Extra buttons for a second subscriber in the home can be leased for the low monthly fee of $2 a month.

It's easier than using a telephone. If help is needed, the subscriber simply pushes their help button worn on the wrist, around the neck or clipped to their clothing. Within seconds our local Response Centre is in contact with the subscriber through the two-way speaker and the subscriber can let them know the situation without having to get to the phone.

Our local Response Centre team is there to serve the needs of each and every subscriber. If the button is accidentally pressed, an operator will check in on the subscriber and, if verified no help is needed, simply cancel the help call.

Our equipment is compatible with special equipment that can suit any user's needs such as a sip/puff switch, pillow switch, wobble switch, p-switch and rocking lever switch.

Between visits and phone calls, an accidental fall or flare up of an existing medical condition could occur at any time, anywhere in the home.  Northwood's personal emergency response service is there 24 hours a day, every day to get our subscribers the help they need, when they need it.

Northwood has been providing emergency response for over 20 years.  The equipment we use is made by a company with over 40 years of experience in the industry and is the largest provider of emergency response equipment in the world.   The Northwood Intouch service consists of a sophisticated device with a built-in speaker phone that connects the subscriber's residence with our local Response Centre.  Each unit is equipped with a 20 hour emergency power back up should a power outage occur. The personal help buttons are 100% waterproof and include batteries with a 3-year lifespan.  When the personal help button battery is low it automatically sends a signal to the Response Centre for service.  We continually monitor our equipment to ensure the service is going to work when it's needed!
